After sharing the book My Rice is the Best by Selina Brown in the library last week, Grade 1 (Bluebell Class) realised that food can be one of the special things that make us feel at home, bringing comfort, care, and happy memories. This idea tied beautifully into our Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time: Home and Away, and inspired the students to suggest a Rice Munch Day at school.
To make the day even more special, we celebrated it in the library. On Tuesday 23rd September, everyone brought their favourite rice from home, shared how it is prepared in their families’ homes, and even talked about what makes it special to them. Mrs. Byrne prepared a delicious rice pudding for us all, and with a sprinkle of cinnamon to add happiness, we gobbled it up in no time!
The rice dishes looked amazing, and as a class, we decided to create our very own recipe book featuring all of our favourite recipes, which we will call The Bluebells’ Rice Munch Recipes.
