In Humanities, Grade 6 have been learning about the Romans, and to kick off the unit, they watched the famous “What have the Romans ever done for us?” scene from Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979).
Students then researched each contribution the Romans had made before choosing the one they thought was most important. Teams prepared their arguments and debated passionately in front of the class, which then voted to choose a winner for each round.
Soon we had our final: Sanitation versus Medicine. The students debated like true gladiators, using every persuasive device they could muster to encourage the senate (their classmates) to vote in their favour.
And the winner was… Medicine! Well done to each and every student. You learned so much, developed your communication and critical thinking skills, and had great fun along the way.
