Gaëlla, in Grade 4, celebrated her 10th birthday this week. Of course, like every other 10 year old, she will be having a party with her friends, but this year she has asked for all of her gifts to be donations to UNICEF – an organisation that works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfill their potential.
When asked why she had decided to do this, Gaëlla said: “I don’t want any presents this year, I want my friends to donate the money to UNICEF.” She went on to say that she already had so many things. She said: “I hope the money will be spent on food for children and to help to pay for their school.”
Gaëlla has truly embraced the IB Learner Profile attributes, showing she is caring by putting the needs of other children first, and open-minded by embracing new ways to celebrate her birthday to make a positive difference in the world.
