ISL

The International School of Lyon was founded in March 2004 in response to the growing demand for an anglophone international education in Lyon facilitating international mobility and leading to a universally recognized qualification for university access worldwide. A not-for-profit organization under French law (loi 1901), it is strongly supported by major multinational companies and the public authorities of Lyon and the Lyon region.

Our curriculum is based on the programmes and pedagogy of the International Baccalaureate Organization (www.ibo.org). It aims to develop in the students the skills, values and knowledge that will help them to become responsible citizens in an increasingly interconnected world.

The school is an authorized IB diploma school and has candidate status for the IBO's Primary Years Programme (PYP). We are a member of the Council of International Schools (www.cois.org).

Classes range from Kindergarten to High school, and we welcome children from age 4 onwards. Admission is based on school records, evaluation and, where possible, an interview. The school offers full 'English as a Second Language' support, however, a minimum level of English is required for entry into the secondary school. Students are taught five days a week. The school day runs from 8:30 to 15:10, with some IB diploma classes extending to 16:30. After-school activities in the fields of sports, arts and community service take place Monday - Thursday. The school calendar follows, with minor modifications, the calendar of the French 'zone A'.
