International School of LyonGeneral Information The International School of Lyon was founded in March 2004 in response to the growing demand from expatriate families and their employers for an English language international education in Lyon which would facilitate international mobility and give access to a universally recognized qualification for quality higher education worldwide. Run as a non-profit organization under French law (loi 1901), it is strongly supported by major multinational companies and has benefitted from support from some of the local and regional authorities.
ISL is an IBO 'World School', of which there are over 3, 000 today, spread over five continents. The school is fully authorized to deliver the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Primary Year's Programme, is an accredited centre for Cambridge International Examinations (www.cie.org.uk) and is a member of ECIS (European Council of International Schools: www.ecis.org) and ELSA (English Language School Association: www.elsa-france.org). Classes in ISL range from Kindergarten to High School, and we welcome children from age 4 onwards. Admission is based on school records, evaluation and, where appropriate, an interview or test. The school offers 'English as an additional Language' support but a minimum level of English is required for entry into the secondary school. Numerous extra-curricular activities (lunchtimes and afterschool) are available (see 'Field Trips and Activities') and the school has an active Student Council and PTA (Parent Teacher Association). The school calendar follows the calendar of the French 'zone A' with minor modifications. Back to top of page |
